In 2022, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) was awarded funding from the California Arts Council (CAC) to be one of the administering organizations for the Creative Corps Initiative across the Bay Area. Through this grant, YBCA will be providing artists with a living wage as they work with nonprofit institutions within one of the four key issue areas to create a project of their choice. These issue areas include civic engagement, social justice, climate justice, and community health and wellness.
Directed by the CAC, the Creative Corps Initiative will prioritize communities that fall below the 25th percentile on the California Healthy Place Index. These communities in the Bay Area include select areas of Antioch, Bay Point, Berkeley, Concord, Fairfield, Hayward, Oakland, Pittsburg, Richmond, San Francisco, San Jose, San Raphael, and Vallejo.
As YBCA prepares to roll out this funding opportunity, we are looking to connect with government entities, arts councils, nonprofit arts organizations, and other nonprofit institutions within the priority issue areas in your community. Through these information sessions, we will be providing an overview of the Creative Corps Initiative, walking participants through the draft guidelines and application, detailing our outreach and marketing plan, and looking to hear feedback on the entirety of the process.
Please register on Eventbrite for one of the following dates:
YBCA’s Creative Corps Initiative Information Session #1 : March 14 @ 9am-10am
YBCA’s Creative Corps Initiative Information Session #2: March 14 @ 5pm-6pm
YBCA’s Creative Corps Initiative Information Session #3: March 15 @6pm-7pm
(ASL Interpretation will be provided for this information session)
YBCA’s Creative Corps Initiative Information Session #4: March 16 @11am-12pm
YBCA’s Creative Corps Initiative Information Session #5: March 21st @2pm-3pm
Additionally, we hope you will share this invitation to our information sessions across your networks. We attached a flyer, for easy distribution, that has a brief description of the program, dates and times of the information sessions, and a registration link. With that all being said, we look forward to informing you about this initiative and hearing your feedback on the entire process.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions at creativecorps@ybca.org.
