Scandinavian Christmas Art Walk at Alibi Bookshop

Scandinavian Christmas Art Walk at Alibi Bookshop

Art Walk falls on Friday the 13th this year, but we think that’s lucky — it also falls on the Swedish Holiday, Santa Lucia Day!

Santa Lucia Day is celebrated in Scandinavian countries, and is also known as The Festival of Lights. Traditionally the eldest daughter rises at dawn, dressed in a white gown and a crown of candles (electric, these days!), and leads a procession of children singing songs, bringing breakfast to her parents in homage to St. Lucy. Since Lucia Day was believed to fall on the solstice, the longest night of the year, she symbolizes bringing light to a dark winter. (For more information, this is a good read: https://www.tripsavvy.com/st-lucia-day-celebration-in-scandinavia-1626027)

My mother was Swedish and growing up we loved the “Jul” traditions she taught us, and we now we would like to share Lucia Day with you at the shop! We will have some Pepparkakor (gingersnaps), Glogg (mulled wine, though we’ll have non-alcoholic, too!), Swedish Christmas music, and a bright, warm place to stop by on a cold December night.

It will be a lovely night to see art, shop, and get into the holiday spirit! God Jul!
