This is a beginning and continuing training in the Whirling Practice in the Mevlevi Tradition, formally known at “Turning”. We will practice on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month. Our intention is to prepare people to Turn in the Shebi Arus Ceremony of 2015 (if people so wish) which is the annual ceremony to honor the poet and mystic Jelaluddin Rumi. Shakina Reinhertz, who will lead the class, is a Postneshin in the Mevlevi Order of America. In the Mevlevi Tradition of Turkey, this practice is taught to men only, for the most part. People who study the Turn with the Mevlevi Order of America are among the few in the world where men and women participate equally.
