Marty Malin author event

Marty Malin author event

Benicia Literary Arts brings author, Marty Malin to Bookshop Benicia.

The opening sentence of Transit, a Journey of Transfiguration, by Marty Malin is: “Once I decided to kill my husband, it was just a matter of the details.” The story is a page-turner from there. Local author, Marty Malin, will be reading the novel and talking about his writing process, on Sunday, February 18th at 5:30 p.m. at Bookshop Benicia, at 636 First Street in Benicia. The public is invited.

Malin’s career includes doing technical writing from his base in Washington D.C., where he also had press credentials to the U.S. House and Senate Periodical Press Galleries. Eventually he moved to the Bay Area and retrained to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, which he still practices. He published many academic journal articles and textbook chapters.

As a child and family therapist, from 2000-2014, he served as Assistant Deputy Director for Mental Health in Napa County. He began writing fiction after his retirement. He’s written short stories and published them as a collection called Grandmother’s Devil and Other Tempting Tales in 2020. He’s also published in literary anthologies including the Carquinez Review, published by Benicia Literary Arts.

In addition to reading from his writings, Malin will talk about the “how” of writing, the all-important process. His books will be for sale at the reading, and he will be signing copies. His website is tinyurl.com/martystories and his substack is martymalin.substack.com.

Benicia Literary Arts often teams with local authors and Bookshop Benicia with an eye to the goal of encouraging reading and writing in Benicia. They will be hosting four local poets—Mary Eichbauer, Deborah Schmidt, Johanna Ely, and Laurie Hailey—in a reading of their book of poetry titled Love’s Meditation on Saturday, March 30th at the Benicia Library.
