Mare Island’s Founders Day: “Open Island” Self-Guided Walking Tours

Mare Island's Founders Day: "Open Island" Self-Guided Walking Tours

Founders Day is a weekend celebration filled with events commemorating the day, Sept 16th 1854, when Admiral David Farragut officially opened Mare Island; three days of events taking place around the island.

Come walk through history on the Island Saturday morning, Sept 16th, 10:30AM-12:00PM. Begins at “Quarters Coffee Shop” 1015 Walnut Ave, Mare Island, CA 94592.

Start at Quarters N Mansion (the new “Quarters Coffee Shop” from Mare Island Co.), grab a map, and wander your way through history as you move from location to location where Mare Island Historic Park Foundation docents will be stationed to share history with you as well as direct you to your next step.‍

Docents will be present at the Coffee Shop, St. Peter’s Chapel, Alden Park, and the Historic Core. And if you are up for it, find our way to our newly-opened library, which will also be open to the public. This is a FREE event, though we’d love to know you are coming (and donations are always accepted); buy a free “ticket” below.‍

Check in at Quarters N anytime between 10:30 and 12:00PM to start your tour.  And join us after the tour at the Admiral’s Mansion for the Family Friendly Founders Festival!
