Ekphrastic Poetry Call to Edna and The Turtle Dove

Ekphrastic Poetry Call to Edna and The Turtle Dove

In celebration of November’s Vallejo Art Walk and annual Vallejo Open Studios, Jean Cherie invites poets to write an ekphrastic  poem [a poem about a work of art] to her life-size sculpture Edna & The Turtle Dove. This visual and poetic art collaboration will be held at the Temple Art Lofts Gallery in downtown Vallejo, California.

Poets are invited to visit Edna and The Turtle Dove for inspiration during the Vallejo Art Walk, November 10th at 5:30 PM, the 2nd Friday and Vallejo Open Studios, November 11th and 12th. Events are held at the Temple Art Lofts Gallery, entrance is located at 340 Virginia Street, next to the Empress Theatre.

Compose your inspired poem, drop it off between November 10th-12th, during Vallejo Art Walk and annual Vallejo Open Studios hours. Ekphrastic poems will be collected into a binder for display at the gallery alongside Edna and The Turtle Dove.

There will be a special live reading of the ekphrastic poems on OZCAT radio KZCT 89.5 FM to be scheduled at a later date. Poets are encouraged to see the sculpture of Edna and The Turtle Dove in person as well as enjoy the other art on display; photos are below.
