HURRAY!!! REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR SUMMER BAS CHILDREN’S THEATRE WORKSHOPS!
As you most likely know by now, on June 15, California will fully open its economy if two criteria are met:
• If vaccine supply is sufficient for Californians 16 years and older who wish to be inoculated; and
• If hospitalization rates are stable and low
Everyday activities will be allowed and businesses can open with common-sense risk reduction measures, including encouraging all Californians to get vaccinated and mandating masking, to prevent illness and promote health. Bay Area Stage Productions, like everyone else, is ready to get back to business – we are so ready to get back to making theatre magic happen, but not unless it can be responsibly achieved without putting our students and their families at risk.
Instructors Jeff Lowe, Jessika Spear and myself have all been vaccinated. We have all adhered to the mandated restrictions this past year, and plan to continue in the same fashion, to ensure we all move forward and do not slide backwards.
We are ready to set the wheels in motion on two Summer theatre workshops and thinking positive, are proceeding full steam ahead.
*Please be aware dates may be subject to change depending on Covid conditions
To ensure our students remain healthy and well, BAS has decided to separate our standard one workshop into two: the Juniors – children ages 7 to 12, and the Teens ages 13 to 17. The number per class will be limited to only 10 students, so distancing can be maintained. Additionally, BAS has selected two wonderful “straight” plays, (meaning non-musical) because straight plays typically have smaller cast sizes and because it is considered a healthier choice with minimal germ spray, contrary to what takes place with singing and dancing.
We are excited about offering straight plays this time around, not only because it is a great opportunity for our young actors to strengthen their acting and memorization skills, it is also going to introduce them to another aspect of theatre – lights and sound! On one special night of instruction, BAS co-founder, Jeff Lowe, will give students an overview on what it takes to run light and sound operations during a show. Each student will get to watch Mr. Jeff at the controls and for the older students, an opportunity to actually work the equipment.
And now for the production choices, dates and times! Please respond quickly and remember enrollment is limited. Once payment is received, children will receive their scripts, so that they may familiarize themselves with the play and characters. The first night of class will entail a brief introduction by all, improv (a favorite) to loosen and warm up the student, and then ending with the audition process. By workshop # 2 we will be ready to begin rehearsals!
I can’t wait to see new and old students alike again!
Sincerely,
Miss Stacey

SYNOPSIS: Sherlock Holmes is retired and in a foul mood. It’s 1922, and Dr. Watson’s granddaughter, Dot, has been trying to edit the old detective’s long-awaited memoirs. But Holmes fears his best days are past and that the future holds little promise for him. Everything changes, however, when two neighbor girls, Milly and Maggie Turner, beseech him to find their missing father. They insist he would never just run off and leave their mother, who is convalescing after an automobile accident. It’s not long before Holmes learns their father has been accused of stealing expensive jewelry from the store he managed. The local constable is sure the girls’ father has taken flight because he’s guilty. But Holmes — with the reluctant help of Dot — digs a bit deeper and uncovers a clever plot which needs an even shrewder trick to expose. A revitalized Holmes returns the girls’ father, just in time to celebrate their mother’s birthday. He has saved their father, but it seems finding their father has also saved Mr. Holmes.
