Bell Ringing Ceremony – Nagasaki Bombing Commemoration

Bell Ringing Ceremony - Nagasaki Bombing Commemoration

In the 1945 mornings of Aug. 6 and Aug. 9 in Japan and Aug. 5 and Aug. 8 in the United States, the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki took place, respectively. The two bombings killed between 129,000 and 226,000 people, most of whom were civilians, and remain the only uses of nuclear weapons in armed conflict. Hiroshima was chosen because it was seen as a significant military and industrial target, and was on the primary target list.
