- Margaret Bonds’ The Ballad of the Brown King, written in honor of the African king, Balthazar, with text by Langston Hughes
- and Randall Thompson’s Frostiana: Seven Country Songs, featuring poetry by Robert Frost set as a suite of choral art songs.
