A Life in the Theatre – a play by David Mamet

A Life in the Theatre - a play by David Mamet

Robert, is a stage veteran while John is a young, promising actor. As the play goes on, they are involved in a variety of productions, and gradually their relationship begins to change. In 90 minutes of short vignettes, the two actors run through every backstage story you’ve ever heard – missed cues, wardrobe malfunctions, dropped lines, broken props…..Some of the stuff that live theatre is all about. How fun! (unless, of course, you are an actor and it’s happening to you.)

Directed by Jeff Loew

Featuring Micheal Cawelti as “John” and Patrick Atkinson as “Robert”

That’s the cast – but what a powerhouse these two are!

Michael, a prolific Bay Area actor, last graced our BAS stage as “Big Daddy” and if you saw our Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in 2023, you certainly can agree it was a performance of professional standards. Working opposite Michael as “Big Mama,” I couldn’t have asked for a better actor. Jeff’s casting with this current production, is near perfect with Patrick Atkinson as “John.” Patrick masters the art of comedic timing and had me in stitches every night with his portrayal of “Felix” in our other 2023 smash hit, A Games Afoot. The only reason I wrote “near perfect” is because the character of John is supposed to be a young, up-and-comer, and Patrick has been around the block a few more times than that. These 2 men show great acting chops with David Mamet’s A Life in the Theatre. Treat yourself to an evening or afternoon of great theater – without leaving Vallejo.
