23rd Annual Vallejo Community Kwanzaa

The 23 Annual Vallejo Community Kwanzaa Celebration will be held at the Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum on Saturday, December 30, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This year’s theme is “Nia: Purpose.”

Kwanzaa is a seven day festival which celebrates African and African-American culture and history.

The seven principles, also called the Nguzo Saba, are a set of ideals that are discussed during Kwanzaa, and each day of Kwanzaa represents a different principle. They are listed as:

  • Umoja: Unity
  • Kujichagulia: Self-determination
  • Ujima: Collective Work and Responsibility
  • Ujamaa: Cooperative Economics
  • Nia: Purpose
  • Kuumba: Creativity
  • Imami: Faith

The Vallejo Community Kwanzaa Celebration will feature live entertainment, drumming, food, and vendors. This event begins at 5:00 p.m. and ends at 8:00 p.m. For more information, contact Askari Sowonde at (707) 712-3669.
