Runners beware! One of the most exciting, nail-biting, zombie-chasing events is coming your way at 9 a.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2014, as Touro University California hosts its 8th annual “Mare Island 5K Zombie Run/Walk.”
This year’s event, benefitting the Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD) and Global Center for Success, is led by Touro’s Sports Medicine Club and promises to deliver a thrilling experience while exercising and promoting health.
Participants must try to avoid Zombies throughout the race and be the first across the finish line before getting infected!
“The Mare Island 5K Zombie Run is a great way for members of the community to exercise and interact with the students and faculty at Touro University California while having fun,” said, Alan Griffin, organizer and student at the College of Osteopathic Medicine. “Our main goal is to promote fitness and health; all walkers and strollers are welcomed and encouraged.”
The annual run/walk has raised more than $10,000 since its inception, which has been donated to local charities. This year’s goal of increasing participants will help fund activities for the families and children involved with the two organizations.
Continuing with the theme of promoting health, faculty and staff are hosting a free health fair from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Lander Hall Gym on campus. The fair, which is open to the public, includes osteopathic evaluation and treatment and yoga instruction, as well as face painting and musical performances.
Registration fees are $30 for adults ($35 day of race); $25 for students (Student ID required); $12 children 5-12; free for children under 5 years of age; family discount of $5 off each ticket after second entry.
Participants will run around the island with start and finish at Touro University California, 1310 Club Drive, Mare Island, in Vallejo. Signs will direct participants to the location.
