Vallejo Historic Building Tour

Please join us for a tour of historic buildings in downtown Vallejo to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966. The tour is scheduled for Sunday, July 17, 2016 from 1:00 -3:00 p.m. A $10 donation is appreciated and reservations can be made by phone (707) 643-0077 or by emailing .

The tour will begin at the Museum and will visit the inside of the following buildings: proceeding across Marin Street to the Temple Art Lofts (former Masonic Temple building) and the old City Hall; continue to the 300 block of Virginia Street and the Empress Theater at 330 Virginia Street; next to the 300 block of Georgia Street to the Bank of America building at 332 Georgia, and the Odd Fellows Building at 342 Georgia Street. Following that we will proceed to the 400 block of Georgia Street to the Redmen’s (Samoset Hall) building at 431-33 Georgia Street. Continuing to Sonoma Boulevard and onto Virginia Street then back to the Museum, where refreshments will be served.

Other buildings of interest that will be discussed on the walking tour include the former McMilllan Photography Studio (currently the Good Day Cafe), City of Paris department store, Woolworths, and the Vallejo Electric Light & Power Company/PG&E building (a.k.a. City Lights).

Participants on the Tour will be given a notecard with a rendering of buildings on Georgia Street before Redevelopment, designed by local artist Dorothy Herger. Following the tour, wine and cheese will be served at the Museum.

Jim Kern, Museum Executive Director, and Brendan Riley, Museum Board Member and Vallejo historian, will be guiding the tour, assisted by longtime Vallejo resident Bob Weir.
