Come aboard Dolphin Charters for a 2-hour boat cruise in the Mare Island Strait getting up close to osprey nests, checking for the peregrine pair under the Napa River bridge and learning some Mare Island history with Myrna Hayes, Mare Island Heritage Trust. $40 per person. Sunday, June 25, 9:30am-11:15am Guided Osprey Viewing Hike on the Navy’s Southshore and in the Mare Island Preserve
Marcia Grefsrud has a broad range of wildlife expertise and has been integrally involved in many aspects of the monitoring and management issues for the Mare Island nest sites. Michelle Eliker is an experienced and very knowledgeable birding guide. Bring binoculars, scopes, cameras (will you share or bring an extra pair?) and hike gear-hats, sunscreen, water for a 1-2 mile walk on paved trail. Meet at the Preserve visitor center.

Sunday, June 25, 11:20am-12:00noon All About Osprey with “Ospreyholic” Diane Rooney
Diane has studied ospreys and visited osprey nest sites for 6 years. She will present a birder’s overview of osprey life from Maine to California and beyond. Diane attended the Raptor Rapture seminars at Hog Island Audubon Camp in Maine in 2014 and 2015 and in August will start her 4th season as a hawk watcher at Golden Gate Raptor Observatory in Marin County.

Join Cindy Margulis, Executive Director, Golden Gate Audubon Society for a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the first San Francisco Bay webcam dedicated to Osprey. You’ll learn about the project’s stakeholders and collaborators, and why this live-streaming window on San Francisco Bay is such an important step forward for those who care about being good stewards of our Bay wildlife, including Ospreys.

Join osprey enthusiasts and birders for a selfguided osprey watching walk in the Mare Island Preserve to view osprey on nests, fledging and in the sky above. You’ll easily see the 9 great egret nests near the trail, too. Bring binoculars, scopes, cameras (will you share or bring an extra pair?) and hike gear-hats, sunscreen, water for a 1-2 mile walk on paved trail. Meet at the Mare Island Preserve visitor center.

Sunday, June 25 2:30pm-4:00pm Guided Driving Tour of Mare Island Osprey Nest Sites
“Ospreyholic” Diane Rooney, leads a driving and scope viewing tour of the Mare Island osprey nests on former shipyard cranes, buildingways, lightpoles and even palm trees! Meet at the Mare Island Preserve visitor center to form carpools.
