Dr. Lisa Fong, hydrologist with the US Forest Service presents an informative talk on California’s changing forests, tree mortality rates; and how the Forest Service, as an active member of California’s Tree Mortality Task Force uses a triage approach to tree mortality, initially focusing on removing hazardous trees that threaten life and property. Due to increasing bark beetle populations and a fifth consecutive year of severe drought, an estimated 66 million trees have been killed across the state.
