The Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve offers a free seasonal gathering for the public Sunday, December 20, 2015. From 2:00pm-5:00pm the public is invited to a free holiday afternoon tea served at the Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve Visitor Center. No reservations required. From 3:00-4:30pm, Santa Claus will stop by to visit with kids about last minute wishes. Cookies and hot chocolate and cider will be served. The Mare Island Aglow Holiday Lighted Trail will be open Saturday and Sunday, December 19 and 20, 5:00pm-8:00pm for self-guided walking on the one-mile scenic trail to the Mare Island Hilltop with 5 lighted stops along the paved route. For more details or to volunteer call/text 707-249-9633. Dress is casual but plan to dress warmly as the visitor center is located in a large concrete 1934 ammunition storage magazine. The Mare Island Preserve is open for expanded hours daily, December 18 through January 3, 10am-sunset and additional evening hours for the Mare Island Aglow Holiday Lighted Trail.
