About Butoh:

Butoh is called a dance of darkness. Ankoku butoh is a counterculture form of dance theater. It was created in Japan in the late 1950s by the two dancers Tatsumi Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno.

The core of the butoh is a body-mind relationship. Butoh is total presence and freedom of an artistic expression. A butoh dancer is not dancing, his/her body is being danced, being free from the social conventions.

Butoh belongs to life and death, it is in between.

About Butoh Dancer:

was a former actress and mime in the professional Warsaw Pantomime Theater. For 10 years, she has been practicing butoh and has attended intense workshops with her Japanese master Atsushui Takenouchi. She has been performing butoh in art galleries and festivals.

In Between was created in 2013 and first shown at the International Pantomime Festival in Warsaw.

Butoh Dancer about her performance:

“The performance, In Between, is a fruit of the many intense workshops with the remarkable butoh dancer Atsushi Takenouchi. His outstanding work with the concept of Emptiness – Zero, which is the beginning and the end at the same time – let me discover what is the meaning of the Zero point in my dance and when it is developing.

In Between is a stream of emotions and feelings, coming and going through the body. They materialize as a movement of the body. It is a moving meditation, a discovery of point Zero in dance and life alike”.
