The Vallejo Arts Alliance, in partnership with the Vallejo Community Arts Foundation (VCAF), will launch the Vallejo Art and Architecture Walk with a dedication ceremony on Saturday, May 30 at the Waterfront, followed by a featured exhibit at Artiszen and the Light Up Vallejo Wine and Chocolate Stroll.
In the second cycle of Participatory Budgeting, City Council approved the Arts, Beautification, Community Development Project (ABC), allocating $96,000 for the installation of artwork city-wide. The kick-off of the Art and Architecture Walk, one of the five projects under ABC, will begin at the Waterfront at 5:30 p.m. Two sculptures, generously loaned by Vallejo artists JeanCherie and Sherry Tobin, will be dedicated at 5:30 in a ceremony that will launch the PB-funded Art & Architecture Walk and Art Utility Box Project. An art exhibition at Artiszen at 6:30 p.m. will showcase illustrations submitted by artists for the utility boxes project and a photo gallery documenting the process.
Once completed, the Art and Architecture Walk will allow visitors to complete a self-guided tour of public art and historical/significant architecture in the Arts and Entertainment District. Signs in 24 locations will have QR codes, allowing participants to use their smartphones to view short videos explaining the significance or documenting the creation of the artwork or architecture – vallejoartandarchitecture.com.
