In honor of Black History Month, the Dan Foley Cultural Center is hosting a premiere of the Wilson Park Chronicles documentary, as well as a silent auction to benefit Vallejo Youth Sports.The documentary presents the history of baseball in Vallejo and its roots at Wilson Park, and the large number of Vallejo baseball players, predominantly African-Americans, who were drafted or signed by a Major League Baseball team. The film includes interviews and celebrates the achievements of baseball greats from Vallejo. Additionally, the documentary examines the decreasing number of African-American baseball players, and what can be done to reverse this trend.
This event will also feature a silent auction, with items including a James Worthy autographed basketball, two Sacramento Kings Tickets, and a framed Wilson Park Chronicles poster signed by C.C. Sabathia. Only cash will be accepted for auction items.
A $5.00 donation is requested, children may attend for free. The screening will take place on Friday, February 17 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.at the Dan Foley Cultural Center, located at 1499 North Camino Alto. Visit the event page here.
