125th Anniversary Commemoration US Cruiser Boston Explosion

Commemorate the explosion that killed 15 crew of the Protected Cruiser Boston, June 13, 1892 on the 125th anniversary. The crew were filling 6″ and 8″ shells at the Mare Island Naval Ammunition Depot. They are buried at the Mare Island Naval Cemetery. The commemoration will be a reenactment of the August 1, 1892 memorial service when more than 1,000 shipmates and officers, wives, Navy Yard staff and families walked somberly to the cemetery and gathered around the monument placed in honor of their peacetime fallen shipmates. We urge you to share this event, plan to attend and to volunteer ahead of time and on the day.
